I recall seeing Angel mention something about this in the past and I didn't understand it...I just was hoping some of you great people could shed some light on the matter.

  1. I don't think there is such thing as an instant classic.. I think an album needs to stand the test of time first..

But I guess if there was such thing the album would have to be universally acclaimed and be just about perfect in every respect..

  2. The two ladies above me said it best.

  3. LOL - Mr. T where have you been?  I missed you man.

I don't know about an instant classic, because that term is a bit of an oxymoron.  I think that for an album to be a classic contender, it must have great production, great lyrics, and at least 75% of the songs have to be generally regarded as good songs.  The artist has to bring it -  to the point where you find yourself listening to the album over and over again and never get tired.  Usually, albums that meet or exceed that criteria are eventually regarded as classics.

  4. The Message, Paid In Full, Illmatic..... Instant Classics because it musically and intellectually broke the boundries set by the genre's predecessors.

  5. Cosgin Sag. She always says it best.

  6. DEFINITELY NOT SALES.  In ma book or should I say back in the day,  the tru definition of a classic CD was a CD that could be played from start 2 finish without skipping ANY TRACKS.  But now a days, since u only get about 2-3 good songs on a cd, they'll label it a classic if it has 4-6 good tracks on it.
