I would like to hear from anyone with this experience. Where did you go and what activities did they have for you onboard?

  1. Although I do not have a wheelchair, I do use a scooter.  I have been on Carnival - stinks!; Princess - worse; Celebrity and Royal Caribbean even have handicapped ambassadors to answer questions and address problems.  My handicapped accessible cabins on these two cruise lines were marvelous.  I'm going on Holland America next month and understand they are very handicapped oriented.  On my last cruise the person who won the jackpot in the casino - Texas hold em was in a wheelchair and crew assisted in any way that was necessary.  I have never had any problems in dining area, and can go to craft classes with everyone else.  Although you won't find me dancing, or rock climbing, I go on excursions even in tenders!  Went to Hawaii, Pearl Harbor, etc.

  2. I don't know whether one cruise line is better for wheelchair bound adults, but NCL has special rooms that have a place for your wheelchair in them.  They also give you special service.  I know that when they had the lifeboat drill, they had a team of people help those in wheelchairs get down the stairs.  They were really nice and helpful.  And the ships were designed so that you could get anywhere with elevators and wider halls.

  3. Hi,

A few years ago, my family went on a cruise vacation with my wheelchair bound father.  We went on Royal Caribbean and it was absolutely fantastic.  We are planning another cruise in a year or two and my father has strongly suggested we go with Royal Caribbean again because their ships are so accessible.  Even getting on and off to go on excursions was easy for him.

In my opinion, Royal Caribbean has some of the nicest (and largest) ships and their staff are fabulous.

Oh, and for part two of your question...

We went to Alaska.  Onboard they have everything from a Casino, movie theatre, live performance theatre, spa, shopping, restaurants, pools, bars, group activities like games night, dancing, etc.  Trust me...there's no problem keeping busy!!

We are probably going to the Caribbean on our next cruise.  Most likely on the Freedom of the Seas or the Liberty of the Seas.  They are two of the biggest cruiseships in the world and actually have a skating rink, rock climbing wall, and much more.

To sum it up...cruises are an excellent vacation choice for individuals in wheelchairs.

    Have fun!
