My little Sister is turning 16 in July and I promised her I'd take her on a cruise just the two of us. I've never been on a cruise either and don't know which cruise to take. I want her to have fun and enjoy it, I know that for sure it'll be summer and we both love the Beach / Ocean. I've heard that some ships have a club for teens and other fun things she can enjoy. I'm 25 and want to find things we can both enjoy together. We are really close sisters and want her to have the best of times. Can you suggest anything other that the Disney cruise??

  1. My recommendation, based on about 20 cruises I have been on, is Carnival or Royal Caribbean.  Both are good cruise lines although Royal Caribbean is a little better than Carnival.  Both have programs for teens and areas on ship that are specifically for teens.  On Royal Caribbean ships the teen place is called Fuel and is part of the Adventure Ocean part of the ship that is reserved for kids.  Fuel has a disco and other things just for teens.  They ships have staff persons who are professionally trained to design and have programs for kids.

I recommend Royal Caribbean because their ships have more on board activities for kids.  We just went on RC's Mariner of the Seas (and the Adventure) last year and the ship has a rock climbing wall, a full sized basketball/tennis court, a mini-golf course, a roller blade track, and ice skating rink, ping pong, a video arcade, a game room with games provided and pools and hot tubs that kids can use.  On the new RC Freedom of the Seas they also have the Flowrider where you can surf on a boogie board right on ship.  Not all RC ships have the ice skating rink but those that do also have a free ice show that is fabulous.

I suggest a Western Caribbean cruise because those generally have more port stops than the Eastern itinerary.  The Western Caribbean itineraries generally go to Cozumel, Mexico, Grand Cayman, Jamaica and a private island.  I think that RC';s private island in Labadee is the best of any cruise line I have ever gone on.

You should definitely check out cruises on the Royal Caribbean's Freedom and Liberty of the Seas.  We went on the Freedom and although its a very large ship (@4000 passenger capacity), its a great ship with great food, staff and activities.

  2. I would go with Carnival.  They offer the best value.  They have an awesome teen program.  My kids love it.

  3. go on a Carnival cruise to the Bahamas. Its really a great experience. And you can go to the Blue Lagoon.

  4. Check out the Disney Cruise Line
