Question:

What cruise line won't be constantly trying to sell me something?

My wife and I took a carnival cruise last year for our anniversary. We did have a great time but we were annoyed by the fact that every time we blinked our eyes there was someone trying to sell us something while we were on the boat. I understand people doing it while in the ports of call that didn't bother us. If we decide to take another cruise we would want one that is very relaxed and we won't feel pressured to buy stuff. Please help. Thanks

  1. Honestly, you have to go with one of the high-end lines.  The more Mass Market the line, the more desperate they are for on-board revenue.  I would suggest Cunard - they are not terribly expensive, and other than in the Spa, they don't really slam you to buy c**p all the time.  For Mass Market lines, think Princess, they are a little more subdued.

As to the previous answer - How dumb is that?  The guy has obviously never been on a cruise ship.  The guys selling soda cards, photos, bingo cards, drink specials, etc etc have NO IDEA who you booked your cruise with.

  2. I have been on two small ship cruises (a 100 people or less). And never once did anyone try and sell us anything. It was also fun because the staff is more personable and you get to know your fellow guests really well. The only disadvantage is there isn't shows and night clubs on board. But if you are looking for something more intimate then a small cruise is for you.

  3. I have only been on one cruise which was with Royal Caribbean on the Radiance of the Seas to Alaska.  With the exception of pictures at meals and when visiting ports I did not have any experiences with anyone trying to sell me anything (except in the shops of course).  With the pictures you had to go to a certain location to look at and purchase your picture so really there was no pressure to buy them.

  4. If you use a travel Agent you won't get bugged. They will only follow up on your trip.

  5. I've been on a Carnival cruise once and experienced the same thing as you. I've been on 5 other cruise lines, and never had anything near that. I don't like Carnival for that reason. I think they're underpaid, because Carnival is more as the budget cruise line, so the workers maybe act like the people that you will see at the ports? Other cruise lines have  a lot more class than Carnival and I highly doubt that you will see anything like it on any others.

    Hope this helps!

  6. i think unless you try Celebrity you will encounter the same thing. Ive been on Carnival (9 times) and RCL and have found it with both companies. I just choose to ignore and rarely purchase anything other than drink from the bar

  7. On Princess cruise lines, the only thing that was pushed on us somewhat was the photo's. We just declined when they asked if they could take our picture. Lots of people love the pictures. As far as drinks go, the only time we were asked if we wanted drinks was when we sat down for a show and at dinner. I never found Princess intrusive at all. Maybe I just look real mean or something, Ha, Ha, Ha!
