Most ships also go to Ensenada MX. I was hoping there is a Catalina, San Diego, LA trip

  1. those cruises usually have to go to a foreign port(like Ensenada)

    in between two US ports.

    try carnival,royal carribbean,princess.

    good luck

  2. Your search ends at below site. Have a look at it. It will definitely help you out

  3. Only a US flagged ship could do the itinerary you are asking about.  The two companies that offer short cruises out of Los Angeles are Carnival and Royal Caribbean.  All of their ships are foreign flagged.  Thus all are required by law to stop at a non-US port.  The closest one is Ensenada.

There are ships that go between California and Catalina.  However, these are not cruise ships.  These ships are more like ferries and just go between California and Catalina.

The Monarch of the Seas (Royal Caribbean's ship) goes to Catalina and San Diego on its four night (Monday through Friday) cruise.  But it also does make a stop in Ensenada.

NCL-America has three (soon to be only two) ships that travel just around Hawaii.  These ships are US flagged.  Princess offers 15 day round trip cruises between Los Angeles and Hawaii.  These ships stop in Ensenada for a few hours to comply with the foreign port requirement.

Many ships go one way from either Vancouver, Canada or Ensenada to Hawaii, or from Hawaii to Vancouver or Ensenada.   As Ensenada and Vancouver are foreign ports, the foreign port requirement is met.

  4. The closest you can get to that itinerary is Royal Caribbean's Monarch of the Sea which does L.A., San Diego, Catalina, Ensendada, L.A.

Unfortunately there is a 100+ year old US Law, The Passenger Services Act (Sometime referred to as The Jones Act) that makes it illegal for a foreign flagged cruise ship to just visit US ports.  The ship either can do a cruise to nowhere, which is where the ship heads to sea and does not stop until it returns to the port it started at or it has to visit a nearby foreign port.  There are a lot of other cruises that foreign flagged cruise ships can't do that people would like.  For example a Seattle to L.A. or a New York to Miami cruise, they can not be done due to this law.

So sadly, for now, you are stuck going to Ensenada on a cruise ship or not taking a cruise ship to Catalina and using something like Catalina Express instead.
