  1. It could be that you are referring to 'rose rocks', which are mineralogical formations consisting primarily of barium sulphate crystals and sand. In desert environments, the sand often has a relatively high iron content (unlike sand from watery environments such as beaches - the water reacts with and removes the iron), which gives rose rocks a reddish colour. The interlocking crystal plates of rose rocks gives them a surprisingly rose-like appearance, although they are not related to the plants in any way. Rose rocks are typically a few inches in diameter, although some very impressive examples have been discovered, one of which was around 17 inches across.

  2. Known as Green Sand Beach or even Pu'u o Mahana, Papakolea Beach, is well deserving of its name. The olive-like color of the sand comes from the presence of a greenish, semi-precious stone named, appropriately enough, olivine. The erosive force of the ocean washing into the base of Pu'u o Mahana cinder cone has extracted olivines out of the cinder. These are deposited on the sand, giving the sand a green tint

  3. There is a lot of quartz and silicon (although Silicon doesn't form crystals) in sand. Don't really understand what you are asking...

  4. perhaps amber

  5. Its called sand, or silica.
