I'm sure it's not USD so what type of currency is it?

Euros probably?

It's a backward L with 2 slashes across it - it's British Pounds also called British Sterling.

FYI - UK on the sizes stands for United Kingdom also known as Britain.

To convert - figure $2.00 US dollars for each Pound.  So a 39.99 hoodie would cost you close to $80.00 US
