  1. We are eclectic.   We use free and cheap resources.  This makes it easier to back up and regroup if we decide another interests or find something doesn't work for us.

  2. We use A Beka with Harcourt Science and Handwriting Without Tears.

  3. A-Beka! We use the accredited DVD program.

  4. We use A Beka! I love it! It's awesome! I think it explains things better than other brands.

  5. We are unschoolers, which means we follow our child's interests and provide materials accordingly.  For example, she takes science classes for homeschoolers and studies marine biology on her own, with library books, DVDs and trips to aquariums and beaches.

You can put an entire curriculum together for free using the Internet.

  6. We used mostly K12 for the past 5+ years, but this is our mix this year:

    K12 - American History Before 1865

    K12 - English A

    K12 - American Art A

    K12 - Music Appreciation

    http://www.k12.com

Teaching Textbooks - Algebra I - soon to be Geometry

    http://www.teachingtextbooks.com

Apologia - Exploring Creation with Biology

Around the World in 180 Days - Geography

    Jump In - Composition

    (all three):

    Spelling Power - Spelling

    http://www.castlemoyle.com/

    Science Roots - Science vocabulary

    http://www.redshift.com/~bonajo/latinlif...

    Power-Glide - Spanish I

    http://www.power-glide.com

I recommend whatever fits the student's learning style best.

  7. We do a mix-and-match method. We use ABeka for history, grammar, writing, and literature, Saxon for math, and Apologia for science.

  8. We mix and match.  Here's what we have lined up for next year (gifted 10yo, 6th grade-ish)

    History: TRISMS

    Math: VideoText Algebra

Geography: Trail Guides to World Geography integrated with Hands of a Child Continent and Habitat lapbooks (his choice)

Science:  All kinds of stuff :)  He'll be working through Apologia's Land Animals of the 6th day integrated with Boy Scout badges (animal and nature studies) and lapbooks, as well as a co op class that goes through anatomy and physiology, weather, space/astronomy, energy, and chem.  These will be integrated with BSA badges as well.  For his badge work, I locate high school and college courses to integrate into the units.

English, Spelling, Handwriting - BJU 6th Grade

Writing - IEW that's integrated with TRISMS

Government - Co op class that uses Konos Electing America's Leaders and lapboooks

    Lit - integrated with TRISMS

Latin - Latin for Children integrated with scripture and history translations

    Spanish - SOS Secondary Spanish

Drama - co op class taught by the director of most of the plays he's in

    Hope that helps!

  9. Sonlight for most of the work

    Math U See for math

    Apoligia for Science
