  1. They are all counted as being born on January 1 of the year they are born.  So all horses born any time in 2005 will be considered 3 year olds on Tuesday and will be eligible for the Triple Crown this year.

  2. January 1

  3. January 1st in the Northern Hemisphere and August 1st in the Southern Hemisphere..

  4. march1-15

  5. no matter what day they are born on, it will count as January 1st

  6. Most race horses are born in April, but the Thoroughbred racing association in the U.S. counts them all as 1 year old on the next January 1st. Then on their 1st REAL birthday in April, they are called 2 years old.

This is so they can race them way too young - and oh boy, what a a controversy THAT causes: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;...

  7. 1st of August

worldwide ? , i don't know, but in Australia it is.
