Question:

What date should I set my wedding for?

My boyfriend and I are going back and forth about a date for our wedding. He wants to do it next summer (July/August) right after I finish my undergrad degree. He wants to do this because it would allow for most of his family to come since it is the summer and all the kids are out of school. I ALWAYS told him that I dreamed of getting married on February 14. We talked about doing it the February (2010) after I graduate in May 2009. I keep telling him that I want to be able to plan a beautiful wedding and insure that we have a place to live. At the same time, I DEFINITELY want as much of his family to be there as possible. He also has kids and we have to think about them too. Please tell me your opinion, anything will help!

  1. February 14th is the absolute worse day to get married on financially, trust me, we were suppose to get married on valentine's day and a lot of places charge almost double for that day. We got married on oct. 14th, i wanted the 14th and he wanted a fall wedding so we compromised.

  2. that's what my husband and I did also. the date we had picked was 8/28/07. I let him pick the date so he would have no excuse for forgetting.

Summer is a great time to get married and you have a lot of locations for  the reception. Outdoor weddings are great.

  3. Do it in the summer.

That gives you two dates every year in which to be romantic - Feb 14th just because it's Valentine's Day and your anniversary.

  4. Definitely summer.  But since you'll be graduating, make it later summer.  August 2009 is a good time so that you have plenty of time to plan.  If I were you... I'd pick something like August 1, 2009, which is a Saturday next year.

Forget February.  It's cliche, and overdone, and wedding vendors will probably jack up the price for that day, too.

  5. well today is suppose to be a lucky day to get married because it is 8/08/08 so next year your should get married september 9 2009

  6. Don't do February 14.  Do it in the summer, all you family will be there...and besides..this way you get to celebrate 2 days..aniversary and Valentines.

  7. honestly summer is better for the guests and the weather is better too

  8. Feb. 14th might be booked at the local churches / wedding chapels... its a popular date to get married on... So, you might want to keep that in mind. Just make sure that the place that you're going to get married at is actually available for  the dates that you want :) Good luck!

  9. I got married on June 20 - Midsummer Eve ;-)

  10. 25th July 2009 like me :D x

  11. not the 14th of feb its to much either september 1st or june23

  12. I've always liked the thought of getting married in mid May... I don't know why.

  13. It mostly depends on if you decide to do an outdoor or indoor wedding. I love the February idea.

  14. 09/9/09

  15. 09/09/09

  16. June...It's going to be COLD in feb, and not as many people will be able to come out.  A wife and husband negotiates...Why do you want to join together Valentine's and your anniversary???  Soooo many people already share that date.

  17. The bottom line....no date is going to make everyone happy.

Could you maybe compromise and do a "summer wedding" on February, or a "winter wedding" in the summer? When all is said and done, the wedding won't be remember for the time of year it was, but for the love seen in each of your eyes.

Since I decided to answer this question, I might as well throw a line out there for the woman who photographed my wedding...she is FANTASTIC and travels all over the world to do weddings, and she is very reasonably priced. She did my wedding and I was SO happy with the photographs...check her out at www.noeyehasseen.com

Lastly...something to consider, tough not super-important...if you get married on February 14 that means for the rest of your life your anniversary and valentines day date will be the same. Summer anniversary time would give you another opportunity to get all dressed up and go on  date. :-)

  18. well, if you start planing now and announcing your wedding, I believe that his family will be able to plan around your dream date and get off work. I mean, it's a year and a half away! So if everybody marks it in their calenders, they should be able to make it.

    stick to it, girl :)

  19. Well if your heart is set on February 14, 2010 then you're in luck. It falls on a Sunday and the 15th(Monday) is officially presidents day so the kids would be off school.... national holiday!  But I have to agree that another day would allow you to have another day of celebration.... but on the other hand your "husband" wouldn't be able to forget a Valentines anniversary!!  :)

    best wishes........................
