What date was the 1955 Epsom Derby?

I know it was won by Phil Drake but need the actual date.

Wednesday, 1st June....

For a long time the Derby was held on the first Wednesday of June at Epsom Racecourse as it became a major event for the business people of London to take the day off to go to this great race. Nowadays the Derby takes place on the first Saturday in June.

The Epsom Derby is always run on the first weekend in June so it would be the 4th June 1955.

The Derby has not always been run on a Saturday but it certainly was in 1953 (6th June) and probably for a few years after that so 4 June 1955 would probably be correct. It has been run on a Wednesday for certain years since then e.g. Empery 1976.
