  1. Generally the first day of Summer is the longest day of the year.  However the hottest day of the year depends on the prevailing current weather.  It could be June, it could be in July or August...  No one can predict that.

  2. What day has the most daylight, the most intense heating? The middle of the solar year, or the summer solstice (June 20 or 21).

What day of the year is the hottest? It will be a month or so after the most intense heating.

What time of day has the most intense heating? Noon.

What time of day is the hottest? A few hours after the most intense heating.

Now of course there's a lot of exceptions to these rules of thumb, but they're generally accurate for most of the earth.

  3. Noon is the hottest time of day - it's when the sun is at its highest

  4. Generally the summer solstice (longest day) in the northern hemisphere is June 21st, winter solstice (shortest day) is December 21st.

But this year the solstice fell on June 20th (23:59 - so both the 20th and 21st, will have similar lengths of daylight)

The hottest day is not fixed, depends on a number of factors.

I don't know the hottest time, I would assume it will be after midday (the sun will be at it's highest at 12 o'clock (disregarding daylight saving), and therefore probably the strongest, but I think the cumulative effect of hours of sunshine make it actually hotter - so I'm guessing for 3pm.

  5. June 21/22
