Question:

What day should I have my wedding?

My fiance and I are trying to decide on a wedding date. We want to save as much money as possible. I've heard Saturdays are much more expensive than Friday nights and Sunday afternoons. I would be willing to do either of those alternatives. Any thoughts/opinions/experience? Thanks!

  1. Friday is a bad luck!

    (From own experience)

Sunday afternoon is much better time.

    Best of luck :)

  2. You can also save money by getting married in an "off" season.  I was married in october and we saved 30% so we were able to get married on a saturday evening for less than we would have paid to get married on a week day in the summer.

  3. I've just started looking for a place and Fridays and Sundays are a good bit cheaper.  I decided against Friday b/c most people work Monday through Friday so a wedding isn't high on the priority list when they get off work.  Since I'm having the ceremony at my church at night, it's not an option to have it on Sunday b/c of the regular services.  I think your attendance would be just as good on a Sunday, if not better!

  4. contact these people and find out which day would work for most of them

  5. I still think Friday night is best.  If they want to attend the Wedding, they will just have to take the time off - but most employers are very flexible about this sort of thing

  6. Friday night would be best. If you choose Sunday, just make it early, like noon. People have to work the next day.

  7. contact the most important people who must travel the furthest.  ask their opinion.

when it comes right down to it, can you really imagine that a close family member would not take a day or two from work to attend your wedding.  this is why companies provide vacation.  presumably you will be providing enough advance notice of the date (prior to sending out the formal invitation) that your family can make the necessary arrangements.

that leaves the matter of which day suits your budget.  different venues provide different types of discounts depending on the day or time.  some locations will provide a lower food and beverage minimum requirement, some will discount their prices or packages.  find the venue that offers the right package.  don't forget to look for discounts based on time of year such as january in boston or august in atlanta.

mind you, there have been books published to answer this very similar question.  research.  that is your friend.

  8. Well I was going to have mine on a Saturday but decided to go with Sunday night instead. We are saving about 2-3 thousand dollars which we're going to use on the honeymoon :)

  9. Friday. Then you have all weekend to do what ever .
