What decent Parent would???

Leave their young children in a car by themselves in a busy carpark at a busy store? I had only ever seen things like this on the news, until this past week, on Wednesday afternoon (was fairly warm and sunny) we pulled into carpark and could hear a car horn going crazy, looked around briefly nope couldn't figure out who it was, until my step daughter (12) saw, 2 small children (all of the age of myabe 2yrs old 3 at the most) both running amok in this car, blasting the horn constantly playing with the gear shift and indicators , anything they could push they did. where was there mother - inside too busy gasbagging to other shoppers. Grrrr was not impressed.

Then yesterday afternoon it was really warm and sunny, and pulled into same carpark and my step daughter said "Mum some idiot has left a lil baby alone in their car", went and looked and yep, there in a car seat was a lil one (maybe 4 months old) plus what looked to be a 1 -2 yr old both sitting in back of the car all windows up.

WHY? Why do parents do this? I just can't understand how people can be so d**n stupid,I would never leave any of my kids in the car, even if it's hassle to me to drag all 4 around, I don't care their health and safety come first. Doesn't it just make you angry to see parents leave their kids in cars?

  1. these parents need to be reported?  By the way, did you do that?

  2. It's safe enough in a carpark. The parent who left the child haven't left in for a whole afternoonbut for about 10 minutes. That's not a problem. All windows up because someone could break in. 10 minutes won't kill a child in a car.

  3. You MUST call the police if you ever witness this again.  It doesn't matter if it is hot outside or not.

"...results, published in the July (2005) issue of the journal Pediatrics, showed that a car's interior can heat up by an average of 40 degrees F within an hour, regardless of ambient temperature. Eighty percent of the temperature rise occurred within the first half-hour."

I can't answer your question as to why parents do this.  I can state that no "decent" parent does.

  4. About 15 years ago when I was walking home from school I saw 4 small kids locked in a car and one of them was playing with matches and the car caught on fire, 2 kids burnt to death one later died in hospital the other lived but badly scared.  The smell of their bodies burning was a smell I will never forget and to this day I cant stand mums who still do this...its disgusting and they shoupunishednished.

  5. You should report them. Next time you see this- call the Police.

  6. my mom left me in the car with my little brothers sometimes, but i was 5+ then, and she never rolled the windows up.

if a child is in danger call the police.

  7. That is terrible!!!

    I would report them, definatly.

  8. NO DECENT parent would do that!!  Just selfish ones that think the extra 30seconds they save from not taking their child is more important than their childs safety.  I agree with you 100%!!  Call the cops next time you see it happen.

  9. I was charged last year with breaking and entering, after I smashed a car window to get a couple of lethargic kids out.

It is the most disgusting thing to do, and there is no excuse for it. EVER. I don't leave any of my 5 in the car, ever. I get them in and out like I do.

If I see kids in a car, I go into the nearby shop and ask loudly for the staff to call the police - *A child is dying in a locked car*

I have no shame at all. Makes me sick to my stomach. Then those who leave their dogs in the car, grrrrr.

  10. I would leave my kids in the car if I had put petrol in the car and could see them through the garage window while I was paying.

I would never leave them in a busy car park while I went in to do my shopping. If you're gonna do that why even bother to take them with you, these people are no better than those who leave kids home alone.

  11. yup if i were you i d wait for the parent and asked them wat was going through they re tiny brain!! lol.

i think parents like that dont bother to take a minute to think about what could happen!

    i agree!

    call the police next time!

  12. Call the police next time.

  13. that sucks ***

if i were u just call 911 and report child abuse

  14. In most countries it is against the law to do this - you should report the incidents to police and child protection.

Too answer you question as to why parents do this - they find it more "convenient" and quicker to leave the child in the car while they do their shopping

  15. If I saw that happen, I would call the police and report it. That falls under many categories, child abuse, negligence, neglect, child endangerment, and idiocy, just to name a few. It is very much against the law. The parents could be arrested, even just by leaving the kids there alone, not to mention with the windows up on a hot day. If you did the same to your dog you could get arrested for animal cruelty, and kids are much higher on the totem pole. What if someone broke out the window and kidnapped them? There are SO many things that could go wrong, it is just ridiculous!

I won't even leave my son in the car by himself to run into a gas station to pay for gas, where I can see my car the entire time and am only gone 1 or 2 minutes.

One time, my mom and I went into Wal-Mart and left my sisters in the car (ages 8 & 14) and a police officer actually stopped and asked them how old they were, because the youngest age a child can be left in that situation is 12.

So for future reference, do those kids a favor and call the police. If the mother is willing to do that and think nothing of it, there's no telling what other sort of dangerous and risky things she is exposing her children to.

  16. What really makes me angry is you didnt call the cops!!!!

  17. No decent parent would do that, and yes it would make me very angry!  The only time I saw that was when I was in a store on a military base.  A man whom I vaguely knew left his two sons, ages 2 and 4 months, alone in the car.  When he told me where they were after I asked, I kind of went through the roof.  I reminded him how easily I could just snatch them from the car, take off, and he would never see them again.  His reasoning was that because we were on a base, they were safe.  Talk about naive!

Most people wouldn't leave their iPod unattended, so how on Earth could they leave their children?  It really turns my stomach when some parents aren't more careful.

*ETA* Charli, that is ridiculous!  You should have been commended for saving the children, not charged.  I guess no good need goes unpunished!
