What decision would you make mothers if you were about to have a child, but the doctor says....?

You have two choices, abort the child and live....or have the child and die. You have no husband as he passed away from AIDS....YOU HAVE AIDS as well....but the doctors confirm 100% health of the child and no signs of an AIDS infection passed to the child (YES I KNOW, highly unlikely blah blah, but let's just PRETEND okay?).

What would you do?

  1. I would save the child and ensure he/she is adopted by a great family.

  2. I would arrange an adoption prior to giving birth, deliver the child and die knowing the child would have a good home.

  3. Aids would only be transmitted to the baby if it had a cut on its skin when it was born and the mother's blood mixed with its blood. It isn't passed down as a gene.

  4. Well, I'd have the child and die.  I wouldn't see any point in prolonging my own life if I was dying from AIDS anyway.  Give the child a chance at life, since my own was going to end soon anyway.

  5. Well...since I have AIDS in this scenario, and probably wouldn't live much longer anyway, I think I'd choose to go ahead and have the child.  With AIDS treatments nowadays the patients can usually live a long time with AIDS, maybe even 10 extra years or more.  Still, that extra ten years would not be worth it to me, if I knew for a fact I couldn't try to have another child.  I would rather die 10 years earlier and have the child than abort it and live those extra years.  At least if I had the child I could die happy in the knowledge that at least I am not a genetic dead end.

If I didn't have AIDS, however, I would abort the child with no regrets.  Then I could keep my life, and try for another child later on.

  6. If I'm about to have the child, the abortion and the birth process are going to be fairly similar. Not well thought out.

Anyway, if I was going to die soon anyway, I'd let the kid live.

  7. If you abort the child you killed a child.

Why would you die if you had the child?  No one knows when they will die.

It sounds like your doctor doesn't want you to be a mother and this will be yours and his only opportunity to kill the child.   He is only guessing when he predicts you will die in child birth.

I could tell you many stories of predictions of death and none came to be and many stories where death was not predicted and it came to pass.

  8. i would have the child and take the risk of death for my child.

  9. I would have the child.

  10. This is too serious to pretend two lives hang in the balance.

  11. I would abort because that would be the best decision for me and my potential baby. My husband is dead. If the baby is born, I would be dead. Who is the guarantor that my child won't be transfering from foster home to foster home being in the care of "parents" who want a source of extra income? Either way, I'll end up dying: by giving birth or the AIDS infection. I would rather die knowing that I haven't subjected another human through a life of pain, loneliness, and psychological damage.

  12. i would def have my child and let myself go-shoot id be going eventually anyway living with AIDS

  13. Take the risk of me dying....I'd have AIDS already so I'd be slowly, but surely dying.

  14. I would have the baby.

If I already have full blown AIDS then I am on the path to an early death already. In this "pretend" scenario my baby is going to be 100% healthy.  I would have a strong sense that being pregnant at this time of my life with my husband recently deceased and myself on the same path that this was a heavenly miracle and I would try to bring this miracle to the world.

  15. I think I'd top myself and kill two birds with one stone so to speak.
