I have a BFA degree in Art & Technology. I would like to open a preschool/child day care center in the future. I know the licensing is different depending on the state..But where ever I decide to open the center, is it neccessary to have a MA in Early Childhood Development/Education? Will AA or BA in Early Childhood Development/Education or just a certificate in Early Childhood enough to open up a preschool/child day care center?

  3. In California you need at least an A.A. in Early Chlidhood Education and/or an appropriate teaching credential.

  4. Yes in the state of Mississippi a 2 year degree is enough. I have a 2 year degree in Early Childhood Development but I do not have my own center. I work at a community college and teach Preschool for the Early Childhood Development program.

  5. Check with your county health department or social services department. Most counties require special training and offer it. In many states, a degree is not required to own or operate a child care center.
