  1. You need a bachelors degree in elementary education. It will take at least 4 years. Senior year of high school take your regular college prep classes, sciences, math etc.

  2. You would need a B.S. in Elementary Education. It really doesn't matter what you take your senior year of high school as long as you do well, get into a good college, and graduate.

  3. You would need a Bachelors Degree and usually a 5th year of a Credentialing program where you learn how to teach different subjects.  Here in California, you also have to take several tests before you can do your student teaching and then you have to apply for a credential after you finish your credential program.

  4. Bachelor's in Elementary Education, followed by a Master's in El. Ed., Literacy, or something else closely related are what you'll need if you want to be able to teach anywhere in the US. Some states only require a Bachelor's degree, but if you get your Master's you'll make more and know more, too. Don't worry too much about taking classes in HS to help you with your degree; basic college prep stuff will serve you just fine. Make sure you take a class in writing if you can, because you write CONSTANTLY at college. Also, don't center yourself on first grade only. Most people looking to teach El. Ed. have to take what they can get in K-5 because the field is very competitive. If you want more choice and freedom in your classroom, get your initial certification in TESOL--then you basically call the shots. I can't wait to get out into the schools!
