I've looked into a public library and a bachelor's degree is required.

Is it the same for a school librarian?

  1. A libararian should have masters degree in library science. Those with a bachelors degree may also serve as a librarian depending on the size of the library. A good field is being a library technican which only requires an associates degree. You would only aid the librarian.

  2. Depends on the school... some are "certificated" positions, which require a degree and pay more money (especially for bigger schools and especially for high schools). Some school districts hire their librarians on a "classified" standing, which does not require a degree, pays less and generally is found at smaller or more elementary schools. Contact your local school districts and find out what their requirements are. Or, you can go to www.edjoin.org and look up librarian to see what major qualifications are. That is the state-wide job posting site for California for school jobs. If you are not in California, see if your state has a similar resource. :)

  3. You would need at least a BS in Library Science with teaching certification. Many jobs for librarians require a MSLS (Master of Science in Library Science or Information Science) and most colleges and universities require a second master's for their librarians.

You may want to check the site listed below. Just use the drop down box and select a state. It will take you to the state's Department of Ed. website.

    Hope this helps.
