  1. Nowadays you don't need perfect vision, because they have surgery for that. First you need to take a course at your local communitn college or airport, sometimes they are both together. After you take you're ground course, which is about a semester long, then you'll get all your literature, books, aeronautical calculator,ect.. and if you pass that, then you can fork up the money to start flying to get your license. That takes 45 hours of flight time, but you usually end up doing about 55, becuase of review time and such. You will go up with someone about 2 hours a day 3 days aweek, so it takes some time. Its about 50-60 bucks an hour. Once you complete that, then you will have your single prop engine license..Then from there you have to gain flight time and pass more tests to go to double prop, then a whole other course to get Jet status....soon the demand for pilots will be big so I'd get on it.....you can gain alot of time by fertilizing fields and thins like that. I took the ground class but never came up with the money to actually fly...I will someday.

  2. A plane I think........

  3. someone once told me you need a plane... but I don't know if that was a reliable source...

  4. There are two basic categories when you talk about being a pilot, at least imho...

First, there's General Aviation - This could be the person who wants to fly a plane himself, either for personal or business travel.  There is a commercial certificate that would allow one to get paid for flying, and you could work for a company as a pilot, and (for instance) fly their employees from place to place.

Second, is Commercial Aviation - typically these are Airlines.  Pilots have to have alot more time flying, and sometimes start out at a regional airline, and then move to a larger one, after 'building time'.

Qualifications needed to be a pilot vary, depending on what you want to do with your certificate(s).  There are basics for any certificate (at least in the U.S. - Other countries may be different).  There is a cetrain amount of flight time needed, written tests, flight tests, and medical exams one must pass.

You might want to check out one of the following websites:

    http://www.aopa.org/learntofly/index.htm...

    http://www.learntofly.com/

The first is the AOPA site, the second is one run by Cessna.

Either one should get you started.

As for ages, you can train at any age, as long as you find an instructor willing to fly with you.  You can solo in the U.S. at age 16, and get your Private Certificate at 17.

And vision does not have to be perfect.  It has to be correctable to a level with glasses or contacts.  I think it's correctable to 20/25, if I remember correctly.

There are also 3 levels of Medical Certificates, as well, depending on what you want to do as a pilot.  Class 3 is the most general, and airline pilots are required to have a First Class medical.

Here's a link to the Federal Aviation Regulations in case you want to read more of the rules and regs:

Good Luck and Have fun.  It's great to be a pilot...

  5. Private pilot-  Minimum 40hrs. training, Class 3 Medical, Pass written and practical tests.

    Commercial-Minimum 250hrs.+ specifics (cross-country, etc.)

Class 3 Medical(Class 2 To use it) Pass written and practical tests

Airline Transpost Pilot (ATP)minimum 1500 hrs.+ Class 1 Medical, Pass written and practical tests.

No, vision must be correctable to 20/20. You must wear your glasses while exercising the privileges of your Airmen's Certificate.

Pay: as little as $20,000/year for a flight instructor. Up to $250,000/year for ATP, captain of a 747

You can start at any age, though you must be 17 to take the practical test.(For private) 18 for the commercial license.
