What desserts go well with Mexican food - especially burritos?

We're attending a pot-luck dinner tonight - the theme is Mexican food, and the main dish will be burritos.

We're supposed to bring dessert. What goes well with this type of food?

  1. i would bring flan or churros. cooking for real on foodnetwork. com should have recipes


  2. Flan is nice choice. Top it with a little Kahlua. You can buy flan mix in the Jello area, or look up a recipe on the internet. It is a custard dish.

    Natillas - Sweet Custard

    1 Cup Milk

    5 Egg yolks

    1 cup Flour

    3 cups Milk

    1 cup Sugar

    2 tbsp Vanilla  

    Beat the 5 egg yolks. Add to 1 cup of milk. Mix 1 cup of flour and 1/4 cup of sugar. Warm 3 cups of milk, 3/4 cup sugar and 2 tablespoons vanilla, add egg yolk mixture slowly and boil to thicken.Before serving, whip the egg whites to a peak, add 1/4 cup of sugar and fold the Natillas and sprinkle with cinnamon and nutmeg.

    Mexican Apple Pie Recipe

    1-1/2 cups sugar

    2 cups water

    1/2 cup butter or margarine -- melted

    4 cups Golden Delicious apples -- peeled and chopped

    2 teaspoons ground cinnamon

    10 flour tortillas -- 6"

    Whipped cream

    Ground cinnamon

    Combine sugar and water in a small saucepan; cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until sugar melts. Set aside. Place butter in a 13- x 9- x 2-inch baking dish; set aside. Combine apples and 2 teaspoons cinnamon, stirring to coat. Place about 1/2 cup apple mixture down center of each tortilla. Roll up, and place, seam side down, in baking dish. Pour sugar mixture over top of tortillas, and cover with aluminum foil. Bake at 350 degrees F. for 30 minutes. Uncover and bake 25 to 30 minutes. Let stand 10 minutes. Serve warm with whipped cream; sprinkle with additional cinnamon, if desired.

    Yield: 10 servings.

    24 servings61 NILLA Wafers, divided 1 cup  BAKER'S ANGEL FLAKE Coconut, toasted 1/2 cup PLANTERS Almonds, toasted, finely chopped 1/2 cup  (1 stick) butter or margarine, melted 1 qt. (4 cups) lime sherbet, softened 1 qt.  (4 cups) orange sherbet, softened 1 qt. (4 cups) raspberry sherbet, softened PREHEAT oven to 350°F. Finely crush 37 of the wafers. Mix wafer crumbs, coconut, almonds and butter until well blended. Press firmly onto bottom of 13x9-inch baking pan. Bake 8 to 10 min. or until lightly browned; cool.

    SPREAD layers of each of the different flavored sherbets over cooled crust, freezing each layer until firm before topping with the next layer.

    FREEZE at least 4 hours. Remove from freezer about 10 min. before serving; let stand at room temperature to soften slightly. Cut into 24 squares. Top each with 1 of the remaining 24 wafers just before serving. Store any leftover dessert in freezer.

  10. I would do a fruity dessert with mexican... maybe some sort of mango dessert

  11. Mexican meals do not usually include a dessert, instead , consider bringing spanish rice or a dip with chips

  12. I would suggest something like an ice cream cake, or bring some ice cream and toppings and have a "make your own sundae" bar. Anything w/ a dairy  base in it will help to soothe their taste buds after a spicy dinner.  Enjoy your pot luck night!
