  1. ~~Turn them inside out prior to washing and pick the lightest wash cycle you can to get them clean (less agitation), and only on cold water. It seems to me all the detergents are about the same as far a color guard.!!

  2. cold wash ans add a cup of white vinegar to the wash

Vinegar sets in dyes and stops bleeding of dyes.

  3. The only way you can keep blue jeans from fading is to not wash them. Be a hippie. LOL

  4. Wash them in cold water, dry on low, and while they're still kinda damp, hang them on a hanger that has the clips on it. Hang them upside-down. Iron them until they aren't wrinkled. Doesn't matter what detergent you use, but I suggest Woolite for black clothes. And just so they smell really good, use two Snuggle Blue Sparkle dryer sheets while you dry them on low.

  5. I am in the same boat and it seems like the best bet is washing everything on cold with a detergent such as tide coldwater. I have read through literally hours of forum posts and websites and some folks claim regular detergent works just as well in cold, but I am going to start with the coldwater detergent and see if I have any problems. There are cold wash denim (blue jean) specific detergents out there, but I havent been able to find someone who sells something like that locally, so you might be stuck buying it off of the internet. (just search for it on yahoo) I am sure tide coldwater will work fine, denim specific detergent might be gimmicky, but who knows. Ive also read, and this makes sense, to button/zip/etc. everything on your jeans and turn them inside out. There is a trick to drying denim and I have it written down someplace but cant remember off the top of my head. If you search engine the denim specific detergent those same pages should have good instructions for drying, as well as washing. Oh yea and use a search engine to also find a guide to the symbols on your laundry care tag inside of your shirt. Ive seen plenty of people swear by washing everything in cold water except for whites, which they say you should wash in warm water. However, I have at least one white shirt that specifies cold on its tag. And if my house was burning down and I only had time to grab 1 of my possesions before jumping out of the window it would probably be this shirt.  So at least read the tag on everything before you wash it. I have shorts that actually say warm water on the tag, but for now I am going to interpret that as 'will tolerate warm water' and just wash on cold. And finally like someone else said wash your jeans only when you have too. I have about 8 pairs and none of them have been washed, and some ive had for well over a year. Obviously though if you end up spilling something on a relatively new pair your going to have to bite the bullet and wash them. Although I havent actually washed anything yet (haha) those are the basics that Ive learned and trust from hours of hitting random web pages and reading forums (seriously ive probably spent over 10 hours on this. I also went into the realm of yellow underarm pit stains on white shirts, and unless you switch to a basically all natural (or at least aluminum free) deodorant and risk stinking, the final verdict seems to be that if you put regular deodorant on 5 or 10 minutes before you put your shirt on, you wont get stains. (another couple of hours of my life well spent). Hope this helps, we're all in this together.

p.s. the web page in my sources is the denim specific detergent page with good instructions for washing and drying jeans

  6. washing any dark clothing inside out and drying it inside out as well will stop them from fading.

  7. Most washing detergents are gentle on dyes however when you hang them to dry the Sun is the biggest fading culprit, hang them inside or gentle dy in the drier.

  8. cheer or cold-water tide.  turn them inside out before putting them in the washer,  use cold water, and a  short washing cycle.
