Question:

What determines if a police officer will give someone a break?

I blew a .097 and had a *rolled cigarette* in the car and the two cops (female) destroyed my cigarette on the ground, told me to call a cab and let me go. I'm still in shock. All I can think is that I passed all the sobriety tests except the breathalizer, I was respectful and honest (told them I had the cigarette before they found it).

Just wondering if this was a fluke or do cops have some sort of rule regarding who gets a break and who doesn't. Or it is just dependent on the individual officer.

  1. Depends on the officer, and if you're up front and open from the start and nice, you're less likely to get in trouble then someone who lies and is rude.

  2. They determine it they are human the same as everyone else sometimes they decide to give you a break most times they follow the law

    as they should

just be thankful and stop s******g up

  3. A good attitude, respect for the officer, and honesty will get you farther than a bullsh*t excuse ever will.

  4. it depends on the officer... but in my experience, if you make them laugh you get off easier

  5. .097 in some states is OK. as the legal BAC is .10

.080 is the limit here and I would have charged you with DUI. As far as the MJ Joint goes, I would have probably done the same thing as the officers and gave you a break, even though you could have been charged for it, after the B.S clears from the liberal, pathetic court system we have in this stinking state, it would have hardly been worth the effort to charge you for one lousy Joint. To answer your question though, the biggest determining factor in giving a person a break is hands down, their "Attitude".

  6. Just depends on the officer and they mood they are in.  I am sure being respectful and honest on your part helps.  They don't give many breaks these days.

  7. unique excuse helps alot, on the other hand a .097 you would probably be dead.....so your account is dubious!

  8. Maybe they thought you were cute.

  9. if your b***s are big enough.

  10. Their mood... don't mess with PMS.

  11. IT REALLY DOES DEPEND ON THE OFFICER, OR THE DAY THEY HAVE HAD. AND ONE THING I DO KNOW [[BEING A FAMILY MEMBER OF AN OFFICER]] IS THAT HONESTY DOES GO A LONG WAY... WHEN PEOPLE LIE TO THEM, KNOWING THEY ARE GOING TO FIND SOMETHING, IT INSULTS THEM, AND PISSES THEM OFF.... LOL.. BUT IF YOU ARE VERY UPFRONT, DONT TALK BACK, LET THEM KNOW EVERYTHING [[THEY WILL FIND OUT EVENTUALLY]] AND SHOW RESPECT, THEY ARE MORE BOUND TO GIVING YOU A BREAK. DONT GET ME WRONG, SOME OFFICERS HATE THEIR JOB, AND IT SHOWS... NO ONE WILL EVER GET A BREAK WITH THESE COPS... SOME COPS REALLY WAKE UP AND ENJOY GOING TO WORK, AND THEY CAN BE LENIANT SOMETIMES.... GLAD IT WORKED OUT FOR YOU.. !!! YOU WERE ONE OF THE LUCKY ONES

  12. It depends on the officer.

Some give breaks, and some let the authority get to their head.

I know personally, my dad is a police officer and he'll give a person a break if they're honest, nice, and cooperate.

So yes, there are some jerks out there- but don't think that just because one was a jerk to you, that they all are, because not all of them are.
