  1. Every sailor stationed aboard a ship is assigned a berth (bunk and locker in the berthing compartment). If the ship is on deployment, you live aboard. If the ship is not on deployment and is in its home port, you may have the option of living off base.


  2. The majority of the Navy is, more or less ,ships. If they need you , that's where you will be assigned to- if the ship leaves port for six months, you will go with it until the ship comes back to port. If the ship stays in port for a month, you will be able to come and go, at the end of your work shift, unless the Navy says no.
