Why can't they just kick the ball right in front of the goals? What determines where they kick it?

  1. The kick is taken directly in line from where the try was scored. Unless it is a Junior age group where up to under 12's the kick directly in front, Under 12's ONLY they kick from either 20 in from the closest side line(if the try is scored outside the 20 meter scrum line) or in front if it is scored between the two 20 meter scrum lines and as for Under 13's and up, the play under the International Rules which are basically the NRL rules with a few variations, so they kick from where they score

  2. league is different to afl, the aim of the game is to score a try by touch down of the ball at the opponent's end. then they can convert the try by kicking a goal and it has to be in the same area as they try was made. they can kick a field goal from any where on the field

  3. The conversion has to be attempted in direct line with where the try was scored. it is the kickers choice as to what distance from the try line he kicks from.

That is why the aim of the attacking side is to score as close as they can to the up-rights so the kicker has the best chance of converting the try

  4. Like the convertion is like directly behind where the try was scored. The converter chooses the distance

  5. Say a try is scored 5 metres in from the touch line (sideline), the kicker gets his conversion kick 5 metres in from the touchline as well - no more, no less. If a try is scored between the posts he gets a kick from directly in front of goal. The kicker chooses the distance of the kick.

  6. where the try is scored. the amount of distance they need is determined by the converter

  7. the position of the conversion relates to the distance from the sideline where the try was scored.

a player can only place the ball along this alignment parallel to the sideline.

the actual position along that parallel "line" is determined by the distance the player can actually kick the ball.

the further from the tryline along that "line" the more open the goal posts will be.

  8. Wherever the ball is placed over the line with the exception of a penalty try where the kicker is allowed to have his shot from directly in front regardless of where the try is scored

  9. where ever the player scores on the line. like if they scored right in the corner , they would take the conversion from the corner . if they score right under the post they will take the kick from right in front

  10. the kicker can decide the distance from the try line, but the angle is determined by where the try is scored in relation to the posts. (obviously the angle lessens the further the kicker moves back.)

    eg.

a try is scored 10 metres to the left of the posts, so the kick is taken 10 metres left of the posts. the kicker decides wether he wants to be 10, 15, 20 etc back from the try line.
