  1. Usually there is a "holding cell" or area where you are taken in the city and then if you are to be held for any longer than 24 hours you are transferred to the county jail. It's way too expensive to try to maintain both.

  2. The jurisdiction that you're arrested in, if you're arrested in a city, you go to city jail first, then county. City jails are mostly short term accommodations, county jails are for longer stays.

  3. If the officer that ticketed him was from the city police dept, he will go to city, if it is a county officer, like a highway patrolman, he will go to whichever county he is in.

  4. felonies go to county jail unless the misdemeanor was commited against the county court, such as contempt of court.

  5. Many times thee is not a different jail house for city and county. If there is, then it depends upon who the arresting agency was. If the crime happened in city limits-city jail and if it is out of the city but still in the county-county jail.

  6. The court that hears the case, the crime itself, length of time to be served, and what place has an opening, also some state laws govern were a prisoner goes.

  7. many but not all the time it is the charges.all charges can send you to either jail. now if you have been to trial and given a sentence it is different. most city jails will take tickets and fines. all others will be transferred to the county jail;.
