I have a flat screen television mounted on a wall with a CAT5-e cable and a 16-2 wire running to the equipment closet where i want the signal of the remote to end up.

Can someone link me the equipment that i need in order to send the infrared signal over the cable that i have already in the wall to the equipment closet?

In the closet there is a Satellite receiver and a DVD player both needing to be controlled remotely.

  1. An IR repeater.

But the caveat is 60 feet. Looky into using 2 of them to extend the range to 60 feet. Most of the one's I seen go 30 feet. So you'll need another closet somewhere between to stash the 2nd repeater.

  2. Most people get an RF remote for that kind of thing. RF doesn't have to have line of sight to control the equpment. The Logitech Harmony 890 will control all of your stuff (link below).

  3. I think you are trying to send an IR signal over CAT5 - here is a link:

There are others out there too - I just googled "IR over CAT5"

Hey "MAX POWER" my answer IS proper.  The link I sent him is a perfectly good IR to CAT5 unit.

  4. Nobody has given you a proper answer here yet.  We run IR signals hundreds of feet over cat5 every day, so don't worry about the length.  There are several manufacturers of IR repeaters that are good, such as Xantech or Speakercraft.  Over the last few years I have been using speakercraft with  great success, due to their plasma/lcd friendly design.

BTW, I have some used products kicking around my garage and could make you up a kit to buy if you like for a reasonable price, or just check ebay for them.
