  1. Usually, we just call for an officer that can speak Spanish

  2. A baton.  Just like a cue ball the harder you hit them the more english they pick up.

  3. A jalapeno flavored taser.

  4. a bean burrito with a ticket back to Mexico.......

  5. Officers usually communicate with Mexicans with the stick, why do you ask?

  6. Although he got two thumbs down, Andy's answer is the most factually correct so far.

  7. It is called Spanish speaking officers.  Other than that there is a phone number that we can call were there is a translator on the other end.  A human one...

I agree with the Enforcer.  I always use, "Hey you dropped a dollar."  Almost all look at the ground.

  8. What a stupid question, i guess Mexicans are the only ones that speak spanish, ....you're a dumba$$

  9. they actually speak into a rolled up tortilla.  if they do find them guilty of something...which usually means they are a gang member they beat them silly and throw them in jail.  if they are some poor illegal immigrant, they do nothing.  just send him back to home depot

  10. do you mean what device do cops use to communicate with spanish speakers...Mexicans are not the only people in the worlds who speak Spanish...geesh dumb people amuse me

  11. I know of nothing that does electronic voice recognition and translation. The problem would be mostly that a computer could do word for word translation, but not INTERPRETATION which can often be more art than science, because it involves reorganizing words into their native grammar, using colloquialisms (figures of speech) and many other subtle shades of meaning, and when you're talking about law enforcement the wording is paramount. I mean I had heard they were working on this sort of thing, but I wasn't aware they'd implemented it yet. You've got to be thinking of a dedicated human translator service line like they have for hospitals. I suppose they could have a word for word computerized voice-recognition translator, but have you ever tried doing straight word for word translation from english to spanish or vice-versa? The results can be pretty hilarious. Go to http://babelfish.yahoo.com/translate_url and put a whole block of english text in, and select translate from english to spanish. Then copy the spanish result and paste it back in and select translate from spanish to english. It always ends up sounding hilariously confusing. And that's with spanish to english- two languages that are very closely related. It gets much worse when you go english-to-chinese-chinese-to-english.

  12. MANY years ago when the 'illegal alien' rush into Texas had started, I stopped a Chevy Suburban for speeding.

After stopping the car, I determined that there were 13 people in the truck and none of them admitted to speaking english and I don't speak spanish.

I called a Texas DPS trooper to the scene and he didn't speak spanish either.

We got all of the guys out of the truck and lined them up in a row and had them put their hands on their heads.

The Trooper said, "You know, I bet if I shoot one of these guys they'll all be able to speak English".....

He then said, "I think I'll start by shooting the guy wearing the green tennis shoes"......

All 13 of these guys were loooking at the others shoes....

    Busted.........

  13. Wow are the most of people answering this question dumb?

Your looking for an English to Spanish Electronic talking translator, there's lots of them. I buy equipment for the US Government and if the product is on the GSA (General Services Administration) schedule that means they sell it to the Government.  You can type in Electronic Translators Spanish GSA and find other companies but here is one link.

For the rest of you, chill out.  I'm sure this person know that Mexicans are not the only ones that speak Spanish.  They probably live in the Southwest were most of the Spanish speakers are Mexican and they probably have seen a Police Officer using one.  Maybe there a store owner who wants to be able to help there local customers.  Get a grip.

  14. Okay, I am trying to post this.  I have a friend with the Hispanic gang Force....that is very busy in that regard 4 nites a week.

  15. A translator is usually another cop who is or speaks Spanish.

  16. the officer who is not able to speak spanish will call a other officer who is able to speak spanish!at least that's what i did all the time!

  17. Its possible in places with large amounts of Mexicans that they are forced to waste money getting translators.

Personally I think no English should get them arrested until they can find someone to translate for them.  It would save the police a lot of money that would be better spent on fighting crime.
