Alright, I'm taking this American History Class and the professor mentioned something about what America offered to the European peasant who came to America during the 19th century. He said two things, but I can remember now is wage in cities. What might be the second thing (something that was really important to these Europeans immigrants)?

  1. Cheap Land - - - in developing the US of A white Americans stole land from the Natives, in fact seizing an entire continent sans Canada & Mexico, and gave the land formerly belonging to Natives to hordes of invading Europeans.  Land ownership in Europe was largely in the hands of nobles/landlords and for a European peasent 'leasing' a few acres of land from a landlord expecting more than half of whatever crop they could wring from nearly depleted soil the dream of owning a hundred acres of 'virgin' land was quite enticing.  Many immigrants landed first in the big cities of America, worked a few years to save up some moey and then moved on to the Midwest and Far West where they began homesteading.  And America advertised itself as having lots of jobs which meant much to Europeans who had largely crowded out their scant resources and were living on the margins.  Essential Europeans had over-pupulated their part of the Planet and spilled over into America at the expences of the Native (Indian) population which was largely extermininated to make way for Europeans.
