This is one of the most memorable sound-bytes ever...This was in the game where they they leading by 21 in the 4th quarter and the Bears came back to win the game...what he meant was that the Bears played exactly the way, he and the Cardinals expected them to play...they did what he had seen them do, when he did the pre-game tape study...they had prepared fully for the Bears but let themselves down with mistakes and poor executions...he was implying the Bears were nothing special "If you wanna crown their a55, then crown em", and that the Cardinals could have beaten them...

The press was trying to imply that Green's team hadn't prepared well, that they had been surprised by more talent than they might have expected, and that led to their losing.

Green's reply meant, "no, we played what and who we expected to see today - it wasn't about them being better, it was about us underperforming at a critical time"

the Cardinals played the Bears in that Preseason and performed very well against Chicago.  they also did great against the Bears in the regular season game, but in the end, the Cardinals choked.  When Dennis Green said "The Bears are who we thought they were," he was implying that the Bears were not as good as the media portrayed them to be.  "We let them off the hook!" implies that the Cardinals let this sure Victory slip away.  Green was just upset cause the Cardinals should have won that game, but choked and Bears stole a victory in the last seconds of the game.
