While in Cuba, he resumed a relationship with a younger woman he had met there in the early 1990s, and he even fathered a son by her. However, he was kicked out of the country once the authorities became aware of his p**n conviction.

He then went to Cambodia where he was arrested and held over unspecified child s*x charges, but was deported from the country rather than charged with any offence. In 2002 he moved to Vietnam where, in 2005, he was arrested and charged with molesting two under-aged girls (aged 10 and 11) at his home. (He actually attempted to evade arrest by boarding a flight to Thailand, but he was arrested at the airport.)

He was originally charged with child rape (which carries the death penalty in Vietnam) but this was dropped due to "lack of evidence". He was convicted of committing obscene acts with the two girls and sentenced to three years in prison.

Glitter for his part has maintained his innocence, saying he was framed by British tabloids and that his trial was a "show trial". Glitter admits letting an 11-year-old girl sleep in his bed, but not to any sexual wrongdoing.

He blames the British press for his downfall: "I felt after I left prison in England that maybe there was a slim chance I could put my life back on track and have a career, but after some time, the people that surrounded me, lawyers etc and managers, said: 'We don't think so, as the media have already made such a big deal about this'."

He plans to record a new album, and to write a book telling his side of the story.
