Georgia broke the truce they signed in the late 90s by trying to assert control over their break away province.  Why did Georgia break the truce?....they gambled that the world's attention was focused on the Olympics and that their friend Pres. Bush would back them up...especially before he left office.

They were wrong on both counts, Putin and their President retaliated ten fold, and the western support will only be a salvo of rhetorical bombs and  a few UN sanctions.  The same thing happened when the Hungarians and Czechs called for our assistance in the 50s and 60s during the Ruskie beat down then.

By the way, where did the Ossetians get the guns, uniforms, heavy weapons anyway? The Ossetians are just tools.

If the Moscow theatre takeover is an example.The Russians are willing to kill many of there own citizens to get what they want.

There have been ongoing problems there since the fall of The USSR. If you do a search on Georgia you will see that Russia has been involved with the ethnic problems there since at least 1992, They support the separatists and, as Jose has already stated, responded to Georgia's artillery attack. I think they reacted like WE SHOULD. Squash the ****** trouble makers (ref. Palestine, Syria, Iran) and get it over with. Hard line is what that part of the world understands. This hug the trouble makers c**p has not and will not work.

The other deal with the missile system is separate.

Russia cannot go to war, does not want to go to war and does not want to take the new freedoms their people have now away. All of that would devastate them and they know it.

It's a body building contest and they are showing off their biceps.

They invaded South Ossetia... Mostly populated by Russians... Russia said " **** you Georgia " and attacked... Georgia got beaten... and now every1 thinks Russia was mean for *** kicking Georgia and defend South Ossetia..
