  1. Many golf historians at least acknowledge the

origin of the word golf as coming from the Dutch “kolf,” a game using a stick and ball that is similar to today’s game.

  2. guys only ladies forbidden

  3. Gentlemen

Or maybe its Grumpy Old Lads Farting.

  5. The word "golf" is not an acronym.

It's most likely derived from a similar word in the Scottish dialect, variously described as meaning to "strike" or "club."

It cannot possibly mean Gentlemen Only Ladies Forbidden, since it was played by both men and women in it's early days. Mary, Queen of Scots (1452 - 1487) was an ardent player, and received much criticism for not giving up the game during a period in which she was supposed to be mourning.

  6. This is strictly an urban legend, but yeah it is said that it originated from this acronym.

  7. We have a winner

  8. Actually, given the state of my game it's really just the reverse acronym, "FLOG" spelled backward.....LOL

  9. That or Goofy Old Ladies Forgotten

  10. g*y Old Lesbians Frolicking.
