Question:

What did I eat (Asian Food)?

I went to an Asian Food store and bought this large palm-sized round bread thing. It almost looked like a large dumpling. It was stuffed with 1/2 of a boiled duck egg(?), a little taro flavored sausage and some otsauceeat (perhaps chicken or pork). The sauce was brownish-orange in color. Any ideas what it was?

It actually sounds like an "asian dumpling".

  3. Check image at  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moon_cake

If that's what you eat. It's moon cake, old chinese use this cake as a present to the ancient, they call it moon cake because it similar to moon (especially when full moon) in my region the called "tong cu pia".

Traditionally, they use lotus seed paste and yolk from duck egg, but i ever eat a moon cake with pork instead of lotus seed, and it's yummy So, there is many kind of variation of filling for moon cake, like using meat and sausage and etc..

So maybe you eat moon cake. if it's n't then i don't know.

    Cheers.

Then you most likely had what's called a "Bola Siopao". The outside bun is made from flour and has almost a sweet flavor. The inside is made up of seasoned ground chicken and a hardboiled duck or chicken egg. It's a type of steamed bun (or dumpling as many people call it). It is very popular among Filipino people, though they also have a variation that uses BBQ pork for the filling. There is also a Chinese variation of this bun similar to the Filipino version that is popular at restaurants specializing in Dim Sum. If I'm not mistaken, the Chinese were the first to develop these buns.
