  1. Caesar, although more known for his military achievements actually stimulated the roman economy by dealing with the massive debt crisis that had arisen. In 49 BC he banned the hoarding of coins which put a certain amount more into circulation, Secondly creditors were compelled to accept any land or other properties  offered to them as repayment for loans (which didn;t really go over well with the creditors). After a minor uprising he decided to cancel all interest  due since the begining of the civil war. These measures eliminated one quarter of all debts and once more money began to flow again.
