What did Kurt Cobain mean when he said it's "better to burn out than to fade away"?

  1. Basically, he was saying "get out there and do things, rather than thinking about them", that it was better to live life full throttle and take all the risks involved in that, than be cautious and never do anything.


  2. I believe he meant to go out with a bang rather than eventually fade away. because that means people at that point have forgotten about you.

  4. the answer to that question is why they still play Nirvana all the time today. If he had continued to make albums, he'd be a nobody by now.

  5. there are 2 meanings to it, both life and death.

    life: it is better to live your life in an amazing way full of excitement and loving every minute than to do something you hate and literally  "fade away".

    death: it is better to die in a big way (heroic fire rescue or trying to save someone in water or other things) rather than get a terminal ilness such as a bad case of cancer are drag out death over years.

  6. that it is better leave suddenly or what ever so that people will remember him... and so that people wont eventually just forget a bout him
