i remember seeing muhammed ali on the michael parkinson show in the mid 70s and he really came across as arrogant and racist with a huge chip on his shoulder, he did at one stage call for the destruction of the white man although later he said he was joking. i never liked him as i found him provocative rude and indeed bordering on racism. i remember one person commenting about him, stating that what ali said to frazier was disgusting, but i cant find out what he was supposed to have said that upset frazier and the public so much. does any one know

  1. He made fun of the way Frazier looked and called him a gorilla.  He even had a little doll he use to hit and pretend it was Joe Frazier.  One time when he mentioned the thrilla in Manilla he said something to this effect... "There's going to be a thrilla in Manilla when I beat the big gorilla..."

  2. i am a huge boxing fan, but was not yet born until cassius clay's loss to larry holmes.  so i have no first hand knowledge of his career, but i've obviously seen much footage of him in fights, interviews, etc.

while he was a good fighter, i have always thought he  was one of the most disrespectful of any athletes, and is probably somewhat responsible for the blatant bad sportsmanship that circulates in all of sports today.

boxing used to be known as a gentleman's sport.

besides that, he was a draft dodger (guys like joe louis and billy conn, and a whole lot of others put their careers on hold to serve), he did sound like a racist person, though thats not too uncommon, and a was also a muslim.....being a muslim isnt a bad thing , in and of itself, but i dont like them cause they are scumbags.

and for some reason, this guy is celebrated as some kind of national hero

i'm sure joe frazier didnt like him for many of those same reasons

  3. LOL!! What didn't Ali say to Frazier? He called him every name in the book!! And it must've gotten to him!

  4. Ali indeed said many nasty things to Joe Frazier that really hurt the poor fellow.  But Muhammad did always say these things with "a wink" so to speak.  I doubt if he ever meant what he said about Joe.  He did that, first, to promote their fights by putting some spice or drama in them.  And whether Frazier admits it or not Ali's taunts brought the crowd and pay-per-view buys in.  Secondly, it was all part Ali's psy-war tactics.  It got Joe so mad he'd simply wanted to kill Ali in their fights that he kinda forgot that boxing is a game of skills.

  5. Ali commonly referred to Frazier as a "gorilla" and an "uncle tom" which is kinda messed up, cuz i think frazier helped ali out financially when he lost his license to fight. ali is still cool though. he was just a big talker during a time when African Americans were supposed to be quiet and submissive.
