  1. OH THAT'S A TOUGH COOKIE IS THAT ONE.

  2. Okay, you're going to have to proofread what you write a bit better...

Logically, it's not possible for one theory to predict that 'family is prioritised over self interest' *and* that 'marriage is part of self interest'.

You see the problem?  Either Roger Ballard was an idiot who contradicted himself, or you've missed something crucial.

    Helen

  3. There's something wrong with that quotation? A word missing or misspelt. It doesn't make complete sense.

  4. He means they are blood brothers and will have that  common bond throughout life.

  5. Many Asian cultures emphasize community interests over self interest, because they think that you can only be the best you can be with community support, but his comment about marriage doesn't make sense, because many cultures see marriage as a family, or community union, becuae it makes families larger in turn making communities larger.

  6. it means that family ties are linked through the male, so a fathers daughter would, for example, marry his brothers or male cousins son. So all the groups in the local area (ie the village) would be linked through the male, and thus they are bound by loyalty and brotherhood because they are all part on one extended family living in the village.

It's called cross cousin marriage (I think) and its understanding is rudimentary in south Asian ethnography.

I'm not sure if I've explained that as well as I could so feel free to add a bit more to yr question and I will add to my answer.
