What did cavemen eat??

I need help finding out what kinda of animals the cavemen ate

It depends on what you mean by "cavemen". Cavemen is a very imprecise term that could refer to any number of hominid species, not just Homo sapiens.

If you're talking about Homo sapiens in the Paleolithic to Neolithic (the "stone age"), they ate generally the same things that modern hunter-gatherers do today: a balance of plants and hunted animals. The ratio of meat to plants varies, as it does today, by the climate and temperature. In the coldest parts of the world during the ice ages, humans would have eaten more meat than plants since it was more readily available (Inuit people still eat more meat than plants because they live above the Arctic Circle, although modern life is changing that). As to specifics species... that really depends on the region. People living in Europe during the Pleistocene surely ate things like mammoths (very rarely, I'm sure, due to the difficulty of bringing one down), but those in Africa would not have.

If you're looking for more specific examples... I know it sounds cheesy, but pick up Jean Auel's Clan of the Cave Bear (and other books in the series); tho it's not totally accurate, it does have some good information tucked in as to what plants and animals would have been around 40,000 years ago for people to eat.

No clue if this is "correct" but I believe, judging by our physical make up (our flat teeth) that we weren't exactly predators. Therefore we probably just ate the left overs of what was killed and eaten by a more skilled hunter.

Granted, cavemen hunted as well, but not well enough to eat well. This might also explain the spurt in evolution we experienced. Bonemarrow holds a lot of proteins and other nutrients. This could have something to do with our rapid brain growth during that period.
