There is no real answer, it's an entirely theoretical question.  For example, I would say the egg came first, but millions of other people would disagree.  This depends on whether or not you believe in creationism or evolution.

My favorite answer to this question is: the chicken did, because the chicken had to get laid before the egg could be.

It didn't specify that it was a chicken egg, therefore the egg came first because eggs have been around much longer than chickens.

Just as Adam & Eve was created (male & Female) the Hen & the Rooster was created as well to produce.  There's a male & female in every living creature on earth for reproduction.  So I will say "The Chicken came first".
