  1. minus Bama's dominance and a couple minor surprises, it was full of lackluster no-surprise scrimmages.  I cant wait for the actual season to start next week.

Let me clarify that, having lived several years in Virginia, where I played high school ball with or against then several future VT players, Tech's loss wasn't all that much of a shock.  They had essentially a third string back carrying the ball--Ore was sent home, and Lewis and some other guy got injured back in the Spring--and they have lost their offensive identity.  Did anyone even watch the game against ECU last year?  Even Herbstreet (sp?) said it was very likely.

As for Michigan's loss--was that really out of no where?  Come on.  Michigan is a zone, north-south squad...their current players were recruited to suit that style of play, not to be West Virginia.   And, hello--Appy State @ the Big House, 2007.

  2. From what I saw Georgia will not go through the SEC undefeated.

  3. it was good i was rooting for illinoi though

  4. VT lost to ECU... grrr...

  5. OU was up 50-0 at the half...

  6. bad...tim tebow is still alive

  7. it will be another long season for the Wolverines.

    Alabama all the way

  8. I prefer the NFL to college. However,It was great to see some real football games. (pre- season sucks) Florida and USC caught my eye the most. I would not be surprised to see them in the mythical championship game. All in all it was a fun day. Upsets and the mis-match routs one would expect on opeing day.

I would be remiss if I did not mention Alabama. They were impressive.

  9. to that one guy, of course USC looked sick! they played against a talent-depleted virginia team.  but, let's get this straight, there's no chance they are better than the 04-05 Trojans.  Teams like that come around only so often.  The only team i can think of that might be able to beat that team is the 01 miami hurricanes.  anyway, getting back on subject.  i was not in the least suprised by bowling green beating pitt.  i have long thought mccoy and the panthers were way overrated and that showed after he only got what, 76 yards?  and ppl were saying he was the best RB in the nation?  h**l no!  Beanie is, but that was a devestating blow for OSU.  Speaking of OSU, Pryor looked excellent today.  he looked like a leaner, speedier freshman tebow.  now, i'm not saying he's better as a frosh than tebow was, just saying he looks a bit thinner and faster.  i doubt he's the passer tebow is, but he has a boatload of potential.  The two legit suprises to me were ECU's upset victory over VT and Florida's absolute DEMOLITION of hawaii.  we all new the gators would win by a decent margin, but that much?!  i was think 40 something to 20 something, not that!  Florida really is looking good right now, but then again hawaii did lose 3 excellent WR's and an insane QB.  aaaaaaand, the pain continues for syracuse.  boy, how the mighty have fallen, lol.  as for LSU, good job not pulling a michigan.

  10. I loved it, Bama and Mizzou did what I thought they would do.  Thanks to Bama cause now I think UT will be in the top 10 in the AP.  What I thought was outstanding was what Bowling Green did to Pitt.  Great games all the way around.  Hook 'em Horns!

  11. Ole Miss won 41-24 and Mississippi State lost to Louisiana Tech of all teams.  I'm happy.  Still, I'm a little concerned about Ole Miss's defense.  But hey, this week turned out great.

  12. Penn State, Alabama, USC, Missouri, and LSU looked impressive, while Michigan and Georgia did not. I know that Georgia beat Georgia Southern, an average I-AA team on par with Coastal Carolina, 45-21. That's a score you'd more associate with as being against a Sun Belt team. Ohio State looked decent, but not impressive.

  13. Pretty good... just hoping that Chris Wells will be able to play next week.  Not much of a college football fan (I'm more of a NFL fan) but hopefully Tim Tebow can win the Heisman Trophy again this year.

  14. Well im a huge trojans fan so USC killed Virginia by 45 and WOW.We look better than the 04-05 team when we had Bush and Leinart. And our Defense Will carry the load against an Ohio State that will struggle. Some great upsets and it looks like the PAC 10 looks strong.AND the ACC looks like a non bcs confrence.Like Last year.EXPECT THE UNEXPECTED!

  15. Okay, here's my place to gloat. I hope nobody here is a real Michigan fan (Go Utah!) But poor Mr. Rodriguez got his can handed to him today. He wasn't ready for this and i thank god for that. i could care less about Ohio State, LSU, or even Florida for all that matters. West Virginia clobbered Villanova today, with Pat McAffee blasting an absolutely perfect 52 yard field goal to end the first half. 52 yards!! perfect split on the uprights!! you can't get much better than that.

as you can see, i'm a born and bred WVU fan, and i really feel after what Rodriguez did to the team, Michigan should really re-think signing on their head coach.. especially after what happened with Utah.

Oh well, Coach Bill Stewart will show the world exactly what Rod left behind. Coach Stewart is from my hometown (of less than 5,000) and we're alumni from the same high school. I used to mow his yard when i was a kid.

there was not a dry eye in West Virginia last year when Coach Stew was lifted up on the shoulders of Johnny Dingle and Owen Schmidt and carried off the field after the Fiesta Bowl..

answer me this.. how many other times has a poor little interim coach been left high and dry, and came back to win a bowl, and be carried off the field? ONE. That man is Bill Stewart.

I root for two teams... one, of course, is my Mountaineers, and, deep in the bottom of my heart, i have a soft spot for the big black "G".. the Georgia Bulldogs.

the 'EERS will most definitely have a winning season with Coach Stew and Pat White behind the wheel, and we have crazies like Scooter Berry and Noel Devine.

the DAWGS are looking pretty sharp too, and with a running back like Moreno, i do believe the Heisman trophy is heading for the Dirty South!

  16. I am a Michigan fan,but overall just happy to see college football here again

  17. It was a good start for the 2008 football season. Florida, Lsu, Auburn and Georgia all make there statement clear for having an SEC team in the national title hunt. USC and Ohio State both giving each other an early message with there performance. Missouri showed me there defense isnt great but there offense is. Clemson and Alabama gave a good indication on how there season could go. Upsets happen but wasnt anything dramatic like we saw the year before. Penn State gave seasons to worry if your anyone else besides ohio state in the big ten.
