  1. Her father was long gone.  Her brother was Emperor of Austria, but he does not seem to have done much to prevent his sister's death.

  2. Pretty sure he was dead.  She was petitioning her BROTHER the Holy Roman Emperor or ruler of Austria (whatever the term was at the time) for the right to return, and almost made it out of France, but was captured just before she and I believe the children made to the border.  Can't remember if Louis was with them.  They were returned to Paris and imprisoned at the...Grand Palais? isn't it?

  3. I think her father was already dead when she became the queen on France.

She was sent away to France to marry Louis XVI in 1767 and her father died in 1765, so yeah, he was dead by the time she was beheaded.

  4. Marie Antoinette's father was not king nor was he ruler of Austria. Austria was an archduchy and Marie Antoinette's mother, Maria Theresa, was ruling archduchess in her own right.

Marie Antoinette's father, Francis I, Holy Roman Emperor died in 1765 when Marie Antoinette was less than ten years old. Her brother Joseph II was then elected Holy Roman Emperor but he died in 1790. The Holy Roman Emperor was the Leopold II, another of Marie Antoinette's brothers, but he died by the ime she was beheaded.

Leopold's son Francis II was Holy Roman Emperor when Marie Antoinette, his aunt, was beheaded. He was also the last Holy Roman Emperor, declaring himself Hereditary Emperor of Austria in 1804 and dissolving the Holy Roman Empire in 1806. For two years he was the only "double emperor" (Doppelkaiser).

  5. Marie Antoinette's father was Francis I, Holy Roman Emperor, while her mother was Maria Theresa of Austria, The Queen of Hungary and Bohemia, both her parents were reigning monarchs at the time and also consorts to each other. Marie Antoinette born in 1755, and was only one years old when her father died suddenly in his carriage while returning from the opera at Innsbruck on 18 August 1765.

Although both her parents were deceased at the time during  political crisis in France, Marie's brother was crowned as the new Austrian emperor. She fervently hoped her brother, the new Austrian emperor, Leopold II, would find some way to defeat the revolutionaries. However, she was unaware that Leopold was more interested in taking advantage of France's state of chaos for the benefit of Austria than in helping either his sister or her family.

The growing revolutionary disorders in France endangered the life of his sister Marie Antoinette, and also threatened his own dominions with the spread of a subversive agitation. His sister sent him passionate appeals for help, and he was pestered by the royalist emigrants, who were intriguing to bring about armed intervention in France.

To his sister, he gave good advice and promises of help if she and her husband could escape from Paris. The emigrants who followed him pertinaciously were refused audience, or when they forced themselves on him, were peremptorily denied all help. Leopold was too purely a politician not to be secretly pleased at the destruction of the power of France and of her influence in Europe by her internal disorders.

Within six weeks of his accession, he displayed his contempt for her weakness by practically tearing up the treaty of alliance made by Maria Theresa in 1756 and opening negotiations with England to impose a check on Russia and Prussia.

  6. He was dead before she was married and he wouldnt have been able to do much because it was a take over of the court due to her spending huge sums of money on herself and her people were staving.
