  2. It was a scandal at the time. They raised their fists in the air in the Black Panthers rebel salute. It was all part of the civil rights movement, but the International Olympic committee wasn't amused. They stripped the two of their medals and barred them for life.

  3. Looks like "tebs" got it right. Also they changed the way the olympics are view now.

  4. Smith told the media that he raised his right, black-glove-covered fist in the air to represent black power in America, while Carlos' left, black-covered fist represented unity in black America. !!!!!!!!!!
