What did my therapist mean?

I was talking to her today giving her an update. I told her about how this girl that usually ignores me called me on Sat. to go to her going away party that she mentioned three weeks ago before she abruptly ended the phone call and told me she'd call later that night. She didn't & 3 weeks later I hear from her right before the party asking am I ready she's on her way (she was picking up someone else & was going to get me.) I ignored the messages and other phone calls. I told my therapist the truth. That it felt good to get to ignore her like she does me most of the time. I couldn't go to the party anyway b/c I didn't buy a gift or write the thing all her guests were supposed to bring & I thought it would be appropriate to still come. Plus I went school shopping with my mom at the time. My therapist said, "Well, it's almost like you couldn't go b/c you didn't have all this stuff." I said yes that I thought it would be rude to show up with no gift. She said yes you didn't have a gift or what she wanted you to write. That's your fault but we didn't know. What did she mean by the last sentence? Thanks!!!

  1. I take it that it is your fault that you didn't pick up a gift, but yet you didn't know you were going.

  2. You need to ask her that.

I've been to therapy a lot and understand it.

I do not understand that statement however.

Maybe someone else will. Blessings to you ~~~~~
