Question:

What did others think of the Brautigan novel "In Watermelon sugar" ?

I read it about 1-2 months ago, i'll be honest i dont think i totally understood it first time, however i didn't think it would that type of book.

Just out interest what did others thought of the book.

What was the end message, if there was any message at all.

I found it very emotionall aware book and it covered some of the more irrational and visceral areas of human emotion and reasoning.

  1. I read it when it was first published and I thought it was banal, pointless hippie rubbish.


  2. It was one of those '70's' books,  Brautigan was one of those very hip writers that kept us amused while our minds were doing something else.  

    I think it is meant to be an allogory, inner journey type thing.  not sure though.  

    I liked his short stories in "revenge of the lawn' better.  

    He was a bit full of himself at times.
