  1. They ate fish, figs, lentils, meat, pies, bread, yoghurt, cheese and honey. They drank wine, water and maybe milk.The most common food was probably bread, and remains the most common food in Greece. To dine, they squatted on the floor and ate around a very short table or on sth like a tablecloth on the floor. (I 'm not sure if they did so, but it's possible. Ancient Romans dined this way, anyway.)

  2. Old french fries would contain ancient grease...right?

    Sorry about that.  Actually, they ate natural foods like goats, pigs and sheep for protein, olives, tomatoes and all sorts of veggies for their fiber and whole grains as complex carbos. Not that they understood all the components of it, but as we look back on it now, that's what they had.

  3. Grains for bread such as wheat, barley, rye.

    Meats were primarily from sheep and goats.

    Fish and other seafood of course.

    Olive oil used in cooking.

    They had olives and grapes in abundance.

    Wine was readily available.

    Maybe someone else can help with their vegetable types.

    I'm not sure about their fruits either -other than grapes.

    They would not have had tomatoes, potatoes, or what we call corn today.

    These latter foods came from the Americas and were unknown in the ancient Mediterranean world.

    {Of interest to me - - What ancient Romans called "corn"

    was any of the grains such as oats, barley, wheat, and rye.}

    Added Note - Wow.  Kandy has a good informative answer.

    This is an excellent question.

  4. Pick up a menu at a Greek restaurant; everything listed there except for the souvlaki and shawarma/donair.  (These were introduced to them from the Turks.)

  5. The foods of ancient Greece were similar to foods we eat today, but did not include many that have become important parts of modern Greek cooking. For example, tomatoes, peppers, potatoes, and bananas didn't arrive in Greece until after the discovery of the Americas in the 15th century, because that's where those foods originated. Lemons, oranges, eggplant, and rice also arrived later. But the ancient Greeks enjoyed a varied diet. Vegetables, legumes, and fruit were the mainstay, and fish was a favorite. Hunting brought game to the menu.
