  2. In truth, no one knows.  All we have of ergaster is a few bones and one pretty good skeleton.  Chimps use some plants to help with certain ailments and it is pretty likely ergaster did as well.  Some monkeys will eat charcoal which tends to absorb plant toxins.

  3. Most likely homo ergaster, like many primates, used certain plants as digestive aids. Many animals will eat plants that they have learned through trial and error, or by being taught by their group, that have either a calming effect on indigestion or other digestive complaints. There is some possibility they used poppy bulbs, hemp tops, or other plants. They may have also discovered the effects of some mushrooms.
