Question:

What did the person mean?

so I was at a department store the other day and I was trying to pull a toy box out from a shelf. It was kind of stuck. I tried for a couple of minutes and then I noticed a person next to me with a camera videoing my exploits. At that moment, I let the box go and ended up on my butt.

I said "give me the camera. you need to delete that. you're not putting it on the internet" and he said "no way, I'm keeping it for posterior"

And that just stopped me in my tracks, what does that even mean? And was he actually allowed to keep the footage given he was filming without my permission?

  1. He isn't.  You could sue.  Easier to sue if he makes a profit b/c then he profited from your image.  Also harder to find out if he posted it on the internet or not.  Plus in general, we all know that when we are in a department store you are being filmed.  So it's hard to get invasion of privacy b/c you were in public and aware that security cameras were rolling.  His defense would be that you knew you were being filmed so he has the right to film you as well.

As for what he meant about "keeping it for posterior" he was trying to be funny.  You fell on your posterior.  He is keeping it for posterity--for future generations.  A poor play on words.

  2. You mean:  posterity.

Unless he was being super clever mixing both meanings where posterior means your a$$.

Either way, you'd be surprised on the relaxed filming and photo laws, where the person isn't going to use the image/film for profit.

At the same time, if you are publicly embarrassed and can be seen and identified, you need to stand your ground and start slapping cameras out of people hands.

    d**n you paparazzi!
