  1. ~The bled and stank.  That made it easy for sabre toothed tigers to track them, which is why they were confined to the cave.  It is also why, in latter eons, sacred pools and streams were off limits to the distaff side.  Later on, they figured out how to stop the dripping with moss and leaves.  Eventually, textiles and fabrics were invented or developed.  The heathen savages of South America, Africa and Polynesia even figured out new ways to use coconuts and other husks, and ropes or twine.  Women used sheep almost as much as men, but in different ways.

  2. my great grandmother used to wear 4 panties.

  3. they used rags.

thats where they go the term

    "i'm on the rag."

  4. It wasn't that long ago in history that women wore menstrual belts to hold their pads in place (ask your mom or grandmom if you dare lol).  In the past a variation of them is used to use rags, fur, sea sponges, other fibers, etc in position. I did read somewhere once that some wealthy women would stay in bed or sit on something like a birthing stool (has a hole in it...sort of like a toilet seat w/ legs) during their monthly flow.

I actually found this website..who'd have thought- a museum for items related to this topic http://www.mum.org/pastgerm.htm

  5. Depends on the culture, for instance ancient hawaiian women were confined to a special hut that was off limits to men, were restricted in the eating of certain foods and could not be seen in public.

  6. They used rags. Probably it was tied up like a diaper because a rag wouldn't just stay there.
