I have a feeling I'm going to use mostly onesies, sleepers and side snap shirts. I live in hot palm springs and she is due in october. So are these items mostly what I will be using cause I have stocked up on them (mostly onesies). I have tons of receiving and regular blankets also.

  1. Definately get onesies for daytime and sleepers with feet for nighttime.  The gerber newborn onesies were great for my little boy because they ran small and he weighed 6lbs 2oz at birth.  He's now in the 0-3 month gerber onesies.  The Carter brand babies clothing and onesies run bigger than most baby clothing brands.  My two month old now weighs 11lbs and still does not fill out the carter newborn clothing.  I live in Texas where it's hot, so we keep the house chilly.  We put our little guy in sleepers at night.

Also, Kohl's runs lots of 50% off sales on their baby clothing.  Check them out on a Saturday for more savings.  Congratulations on your baby!

  2. onesies and sleepers are about all you need at first. I agree with Stwbrry about the preemie clothes for newborns. We bought my daughter an adorable mini mouse sleeper with feet to come home from the hospital in and she swam in it! She was born Jan. 25th but wore a preemie outfit for Valentines Day. It was the only thing that fit her well for quite a while.

Here is a pic of Alexia just before we took her home. Her feet are up where the knees should be in this outfit! btw~ she was 6lbs 12oz at birth.http://i76.photobucket.com/albums/j24/ma...

  3. I used the Halo sleepsacks - especially useful when they start rolling at 4 months.  Don't bother with the small size - recieving blankets will work until they roll.  I have 4 in each size and that seems to work well with my laundry rotation.

You also might want to think about socks with your onesies.  Sometimes their feet get cold.

  4. I used sleepers and onesies....  Never used a side snap shirt...

    Loved my swaddle blanket too!

  5. I think side snap shirts are a marketing ploy. I never used them, my daughter's belly button was fine.

Onesies and sleepers. Mostly onesies because it gets too hot if you use anything more than a onesie with a swaddling blanket. Get a swaddle me for $10... most useful newborn item.

  6. Yes, I used onsies during the day and sleepers at night. However, I wouldn't buy too many of them in one size, if you have.. keep the receipt, as they grow like weeds during the early months. My son grew an inch in a week and 3 in month, so needless to say, I had a few unused onsies.

  7. My baby lives in onesies

  8. Oh what a great question!  here is what i've told all my mommies after me...and they later told me they agreed.....=)

Jammies - no snaps! Nothing will frustrate you more than trying to snap 12 snaps at 2 am and NOT wake the baby too much.  Find and wstick with zip up jammies.

Not all layette's are made equal - a layette is a one piece long nighty that gathers at the bottom to close (ideally- some are elastic and stay open, don't bother)  Here is what i discovered using layette's.  They were used almost 100% of the time with BOTH my sons (now 3 and 20 months).  Get ones that SNAP up at the neck... NOT the kind that fold at teh shoulders.  Why?  They will justfall off thiershoulders.  Find ones that TIE at the bottom so you can close it up and keep them warm otherwise, obviously, there little feet just stick out and the layette will just ride up there legs.  You might even have to pay a little more.. you might have to google layette's and shop around online, but a goodlayette w/ a snap top and tie bottom is SO much better than a $9.99 set of 3 from Target that you don't like anyway. REally i promise.

YEP onesies and also one piece outfits!  2 piece outfits, although adorable onthe newborn rack will just bunch up and ride up to thier little arm pits...save those for when they're sitting up.

Oh and here is the kicker and have had 3 friends thank me for the gift...even tho you don't planfor a preemie GET AT LEAST 2 preemie outfits, one piece, easy low maintenance.  HERE IS WHY.  The first week your baby is born, nnormal 6 -7 lb babies, "newborn" outfits are very often just too big until week 3-ish.  You can actually get really inexpensive preemie clothes at Walmart these days and I guarantee that you will need them and they will come in handy just for the first 1 or 2 weeks.  I only bought jammies, didn't bother w/ actual outfits, but they were really the only thing that fit and didn't fall off shoulders of my 2 boys for just that first week.  OK to go cheap since they'll only be worn a few times...although keep in mind that it's common to go thru 4 or 5 outfits per day w/ a newborn cuz they'll p**p up their back...=)  lovely.

So although lengthy, that is my tried and true advice that will save you time and effort at a much needed time in your life when you are sleep deprived.  =)
