  1. noisy things and squeeky books are best - you can wrap them - help him unwrap and instant gratification from NOISE!

Grandma and Grandpa gave him a picture collage to hang up and he LOVED that - pointed out Mommy and Daddy and even now loves to look at pictures of everyone he knows.

A sand and water table - my son's two now and we still don't put sand in it, but bubble bath in it is just as good!

Also - try practicing the "candle blowing" beforehand.  We didn't mean to, but my son saw us blowing out taper candles and really wanted to try.  He spit, but he blew out his first-birthday candle!  We put it in a cupcake so he wouldn't spit on the big cake.

  2. We had the biggest party for my son with all our friends and family and we just got him some talking educational books for babies his age.  That was 3 months ago and he still plays with them he likes to sit on the floor and bark at the dogs and point to them and then he goes to the next page and meows at the cats it is very cute because he knows the sounds now before pushing the buttons so yes he is learning from the books.

  3. I threw a party. He got more gifts than he knew what to do with. I always went for simple educational ones and clothing until he knew clothing was boring.  He'll like what ever box anything comes in. He's one, relax.

  4. I am getting my son a fish tank, and have asked all the really important people in his life to get him something to put in it. a rock a ship any kind of decoration. then he will always have something from his first b-day. I don't think you out grow a fish tank!?!?! also we got him the first 26 dr.sues books, and am going to get him another book and have everyone that attends his party write a little message and their name. I want to get him a cabbage patch kid (the baseball player) and I want to get him some more balls for his ball pit, that thing didn't come with many balls. I am asking my mom to get him the fisher price Little People Barns everyone else I just said what ever but we love love love stories!!!

  5. His big boy car seat. Fun, fun - i know. We got him a few other small toys and pjs too. He was too little to know the difference anyway!

  6. Ya know I really do not remember (blushing). That was 7 years ago for my first born. And even my daughters I do not remember. (opps) But I am sure it was a toy appropriate for their age and an outfit. They did both get lots of money from other party goers. I do remember that..lol

  7. a 1 yr old is going to be just as happy with a bag of wrapping paper as it would with a pile of toys.  and in it's entire life will never ever remember or care what it received as a present.

  8. first bday was a dora bday everything dora dora bike dora power wheels dora house dora dora dora

  9. I bought my son a baby pool and sand toys..Birthday was in June..

  10. Well really the gift is more of helping the parents out then actually giving the kid something.... Something educational is always good....like an ABC book or something
